What to expect
A laser skin resurfacing treatment usually lasts less than an hour (20 – 60 minutes) right here in our office in Newport Beach, CA. We will take you back to a treatment room to prepare you for your session and ask that you relax and recline in one of our treatment chairs. One of our ZO® skin care professionals will thoroughly clean your skin and shield your eyes with protective eye coverings. Lighter skin resurfacing treatments may allow you to only need local anesthesia to numb the skin before the session begins. However, if you are having an in-depth laser procedure, sedation may be required. Throughout the resurfacing, the handpiece will pass over your skin. You may feel the heat of the laser followed by cold air from the system's built-in cooling device. This innovative energy targeting your skin is designed to remove damaged and dead skin cells while promoting new collagen production.
Your treated skin may look pink or red once the session is over. There may be some swelling and irritation. These symptoms subside in a few days and the skin peeling process will occur over a 3 – 5-day period for a lighter resurfacing. A deeper laser skin resurfacing recovery time will take longer (several weeks). The treatment sections may be protected with dressings and the swelling, irritation, and burning symptoms may be stronger. Pain medication can be prescribed to lessen these symptoms.
